Oshino Ougi 1/8 scale

Hello all!

Today’s review: Oshino Ougi! The figure was released by Kotobukiya. Ougi is a side character in Monogatari series, that seems to play an important part though. And she actually does, but no spoilers! Ougi claims to be Oshino Meme’s niece. The figure looked very promising from the beginning and the price wasn’t too high (8200 yen). And as a big Monogatari fan I had to get her!

Ougi is 20cm high. The base design is awesome! It’s very detailed and looks simply stunning.

Ougi is attached to it with one leg only, but the construction is very stable. No need to worry about the figure falling.

The pose is great too. Ougi looks dynamic with her windblown hair and clothes.

She’s sculpted and painted nicely. As usual Koto could put more effort in the shadowing, but still the figure looks good. Only the hair could be sculpted better, it doesn’t look very natural, but also not too bad either.

She looks good alongside Senjougahara made by Kotobukiya too!IMG_3377

Her current price isn’t as low anymore, but it’s not horrifying either ~9000k for used one. I’m glad I got Ougi, she looks gorgeous and was relatively cheap. Good that Kotobukiya decided to make her and put much effort into making her. She doesn’t look too interesting in the anime, I’d say her looks’re quite plain, but Koto made her look stunning!

I hope you like her too!

Monogatari Series: Second Season – Senjougahara Hitagi by Banpresto

Maybe it’s not really the best season for this review, but since it’s pretty hot let’s cool down a little ʕ→ᴥ←ʔ Again a prize figure, but one of the best I bought so far.
Another Hitagi in my collection. I always liked this wintery design and the figure cought my attention long ago. But as always, well made prize figs tend to be expensive (at least in my opinion). This one’s aftermarket price isn’t so crazy, but you know already that I don’t like to pay too much over the original price. It’s usually a matter of time to find a good deal though. And I did eventually!

The box is plain, nothing to say about it.

The base is simple, with pink snowflakes on it, that make it quite cute.

As you can see there are two pegs for Hitagi’s feet and that’s all about the assembly -easy.
The figure is about 21cm tall.

The figure is absolutely gorgeous! Even Hitagi’s tigh highs are nicely shaded, which already shows the high quality. Even more expensive manufacturers don’t always do this, or simply don’t do the shading at all (MegaHouse, Kotobukiya…). I think I like the figure more than the illustration it was based on.

Let’s take a look at more details.

The painting isn’t perfect, but believe me, the small things don’t matter. What I truly love about this figure is the jacket. I doubt I cought it in the photos, but the jacket isn’t purely blue. There’s a golden, pearl shading on it and it looks so good! I wasn’t expecting this figure to turn out this good. I’m really happy that I bought her. I don’t see much difference between “brand” figures and this prize figure by Banpresto. Actually Banpresto has some really good products among the tons of cheap-looking stuff. I wonder why they don’t stick to this quality instead, they would earn much more money with it for sure. Still Banpresto is definitely my favourite prize-figure maker.

Do you still need any convincing now? If yes, some extra shots for you!

Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade 1/8 scaly by Good Smile Company

The time came for the long awaited figure of Kiss-shot! The so terrifying 500 year old vampire. The legend of Monogatari Series. We had to wait long, it took many donut-Shinobu figures but finally GSC  decided to release a scale figure of full power Kiss-shot based on a garage kit. After 2 month delay, with ridiculously high shipping cost and beloved custom fees she finally reached my door. Although I had to pay almost 4k yen for SAL parcel I’m glad I bought her on AmiAmi. They use lots of paper and bubble wrap for protection and thanks to it my Kiss-shot arrived in perfect condition. This is what the outer box looked like, so I’m sure you understand why I’m so thankful to amiami…

Who cares about the FRAGILE thing… Fortunately the box and the figure weren’t damaged at all.
Since I really love the box design I’ll post some more pictures of it.

GSC is helping us learn kanji 😛

I was so excited to open the box! It’s been quite a long time since I last felt so happy about spending so much money 😉
We get an instruction sheet in japanese and in english. It’s not so helpful, but good that manufacturers start to consider us – foreign customers.

The base consists of 3 parts
And Kiss-shot!
Ok, let’s get ready for the assembly!
First you have to remove the torso.
It’s better if you remove the skirt too. You have to put her legs in the openings.IMG_3501

Than you attach the last base part IMG_3502

The last part left – Kokorowatari. I’ve read so many comments  about breaking the ribbon or the sword that I was really afraid of attaching it.
First you remove the hilt

It was a hard fight. I didn’t want to brak anything and it took me a while to get the hilt through Kiss-shot’s hands. At one moment it just went throught smoothly and the figure is ready to display. No damages!

This is the space for the sword

I really like the transparent black plastic used here

Ah, Kiss-shot looks awesome!

She is really lovely, totally worth the price. I’m sure everyone will be very satisfied with her. She looks great with other monogatari figures. The design is great, paint job is perfect. Sculpt is so nice too. I’d give this figure 9 points out of 10 only because of a little complicated assembly. Otherwise I’m perfectly happy with her!

Shinobu Oshino 1/8 scale by Kotobukiya

While checking up this blog I’m sure you’ve noticed what a big fan of Monogatari Series I am. As far as I love all characters there’s one I simply adore. It’s the lovely vampire Shinobu Oshino. There’re plenty of figures of her, especially in the most frequent design which is a white-pink dress, a straw hat and of course…DONUTS!

One of Shinobu figures in my possession is Kotobukiya’s standard version. Although Kotobukiya is not the top manufacturer, I like their version very much. The pose is very cute and there is an additional expression added. Recently  Alter’s version was released, but somehow I don’t like it. Her face is just…too childish I suppose.

But let’s get to the point. This is the figure in question:

I must say the prototype doesn’t look as good as the final product. The figure is about 19cm tall.

There’s Araragi’s shadow on the base, which I think to be a nice idea. Shinobu is known to be living in Araragi’s shadow so it’s a good implication.

One of her legs is screwed to the base, but the other one isn’t. You can see a clear part supporting the other leg, but it’s not attached to the base. You have to slip it under the foot, but be careful, you can easily lose it (I almost did and I didn’t even notice it was missing). It would be better if it wasn’t a separate part. You can display Shinobu without it, but with time the figure could lean back.

The hat, the donut and the donut box are also removable. I like the solution used to keep the hat on. There’s a small magnet on the back of Shinobu’s head and of the hat.

Yay! This is our Shinobu with her smiling face.IMG_0795

And the devilish face (so Shinobu-like <3)

Let’s take a closer look at the details.

Pantyshot (⌒ڡ❛)

There were some black marks on her devilish face (near her mouth), but I was able to easily remove it with a soft eraser.
The dress isn’t perfect, but the mistakes aren’t very visible.

I just love those legs! The sculpt is so good! No complaints about the painting and the shadowing too. Swapping her faces is very easy too.
I think Koto did a great job with this figure and getting her won’t be a waste of money at all.

Now I have to be patient and wait for her Kiss-Shot form release (obviously delayed~~~). I’m sure both will look good together 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Araragi Koyomi nendoroid #429 and Orange Rouge thoughts

Hello everyone!

Another review today and its another lovely nendoroid from Bakemonogatari.
Koyomi Araragi!

Koyomi is the main character in Monogatari Series. Sadly great companies like GSC, Max Factory or Alter rarely take up projects of male characters so Koyomi got very little figures, mostly not worth their original price anyway. I don’t really get why such awesome character like Koyomi gets so little manufacturers interest. Of course it’s not only him.

And now we get a little off the track.

2015 GSC and MF joined as Orange Rouge to create a brand dedicated to male characters only.
You can find more info here.
The reality is still dissapointing though.
First of all the brand releases characters, which were to be released long before OR appeared. So in the end we don’t really get more than was planned either way. Do we really need a separate company then? Second thing is, we can only count on nendoroid versions, unless the guy in question looks almost like woman (most of the characters from a popular game Touken Ranbu online). Truth to be said GSC specializes in female characters and looking at their male scale figures their lack of experience is very visible. Levi and Eren from Attack on Titan, Gray and Natsu from Fairy Tail are good examples. MF is much better at making male figures so hopefully we’ll get some nice collaboration outcome. Another thing is, most of announced figures haven’t even got a prototype yet. I know Touken Ranbu is popular now, but come on,! These figures get a release in such a short period of time, while other characters are just a big unknown. For now we can only wait and see. The brand is still new so hopefully they’ll start to think of other guys too.

Back on the track!

Let’s see the nendoroid at last.

IMG_0577 IMG_0580

We get quite a bunch of accessories, that match the anime and Koyomi well. His expressions are just amazing!
So we get: default serious face, scared face, pervert face (!), additional bangs part, 2 ahoges >O<, school bag, Kokorowatari, standard base, street base, some hands and legs.

Let’s take a closer look.
Default expression.

You can change the bangs and ahoges freely.

Scared expression

IMG_2891 IMG_2890

And the pervert face!

IMG_2887 IMG_2898

Despite the small size (average 10cm) the painting is very clean and detailed.
IMG_2894 IMG_2897

The other base that should imitate a street comes with some parts to hold the background picture. The picture is inside the box on the inner package.

I hate damaging the boxes so I’m not cutting it out and printed my own backgrounds.

Bonus pictures!

IMG_0631 IMG_0636

This nendoroid brings many posing options with it. There are lots of parts and the possibility to display the nendo with a background is something new and cool. All parts fit perfectly, I have absolutely no complaints about this figure and I would recommend it to anyone! It’s really fun to play with 😉

Senjougahara Hitagi 1/8 scale

Hello again everyone!

Today I’d like to review another figure from Bakemonogatari.
It’s Senjougahara Hitagi by Kotobukiya.

This figure measures about 22cm.

The figure looks lovely. Posing is great and the base too with a crab pincer. This is actually the first time I got a figure which base is the same as in the stock photos.

And like usual Kotobukiya screwed the figure to the base.

IMG_2617 IMG_2618

Although GSC and Alter definitely released higher quality figures of Hitagi, I like the face of this from Kotobukiya much better.

About the quality. It’s not poor, but far from GSC level.
Let’s see some details.IMG_0453 IMG_0455 IMG_2622 IMG_2625 IMG_0458 IMG_0461

Not bad so far. But the lines are not always even and there’s very little shading too.
Unfortunately the worst part is Hitagi’s hair. Some parts are just glued to the rest.

IMG_0456 IMG_0457 IMG_0459 IMG_2629

It’s not so visible, but both front and back of the figure should look good, don’t you think? Especially if you paid about 9k yen (incl shipping) for it. Maybe it’s not that much now, while 9k has become a standard price, but in 2010 it was quite high, comparable to Alter’s and other leading manufacturers’ pricing. I really like this figure, but its  quality is a little dissapointing.
Still, if you like it and find it for a good price (not that difficult now), you’ll definitely like it too 🙂

Mayoi Hachikuji nendoroid #368

Hello everyone!

Today another review. This time my most favourite nendoroid Mayoi Hachikuji by Good Smile Company.

Mayoi is one of my favourite characters from Monogatari Series. She’s so sweet! And so is the nendoroid, the cutest thing ever 🙂

The box and the contents:

IMG_0138 IMG_0139

IMG_0140 IMG_0142  IMG_0146

She comes with lots of accessories and spare parts. 3 face parts, her rucksack, sitting bottom half and a lot of hand parts.
There are also some additional base parts to support the rucksack in the sitting and standing pose.IMG_0143

And now some painting details. The rucksack is neatly done, no painting problems here. There are some small details, that could be a little problematic, but they’re all nicely painted.

IMG_0147 IMG_0148

Unfortunately the hairband isn’t so well done. There are some paint transfers around it.

IMG_0149 IMG_0150IMG_0152

Other parts are quite well painted.

Some cute poses now!

You can move Mayoi’s ponytails and add some dynamics to her poses. There are many options to pose her and every time she’s cute. All parts fit perfectly, nothing is loose or falls off. She’s almost perfect and what’s more, looking at most nendoroids nowadays it’s pretty rare for one to have so many parts and cost under 4000 JPY (the current after market price is much higher though). Definitely the best nendo out there! 🙂
